Arabesque

This is another "drawing challenge" from the Equine Art Guild >http://www.equineartguild.com/<. The source photo is of a young filly near Abu Dhabi in the U.A.E. so she is a "real" Arab, living in the desert. I loved the unusual pose, and that she was comfortable laying down with a photographer so near; that shows a level of trust and confidence that is so sweet. This is pastel on pastel board, 8x10, which I have never tried before. It deserves some more investigation. The pastel surface is still fragile but the board is much hardier than any paper.

Appaloosa muzzle

This is a favourite shot from a client's photo session last summer. Sitting here at the end of about six weeks of very cold winter weather, with a couple more months to go, it's nice to think about how darn hot it was last August when I got this shot!! Luckily for me, this was a client who is on my wavelength and was just as happy with my odd crops and close-up detail shots as she was with the more "regular" photos.

Horse Play

This is a 36 x 24" oil on canvas that I'm currently working on. It was inspired by watching my four horses out in the field the other day - after being cooped up in their runs for a week due to bad weather, they were full of energy and fiesty as all get-out when I let them out.

Age of Innocence

Age of Innocence
24 x 20 original acrylic

This is a painting of a little Egyptian Arabian colt I'd visited last May, just a few days after he was born. That evening was such a beautiful one. It was warm, the sun was just starting to set, and this little guy was having a great time exploring his new world. Simple things would fascinate him and keep his attention, just until the next thing that came along to pique his curiosity. I thought I'd paint him looking at a small chickadee to show his innocence and sense of discovery. I hope you enjoy this one! It is available for purchase on my site at www.carolerodrigue.net PayPal is available. Thank you for looking!

Buggy Barn Painting

I will resume painting in the Buggy Barn at Lehman's Feb. 21, 2008. The photo above are some buggy horses I painted last year in this same Amish Buggy Barn. As you can see there are also other animals to keep the horses company! To read more about this exciting project go to: http://countrylife.lehmans.com/author/suesteiner/ or to my web site: www.suesteiner.com and click on the mural page.

Mixed Media Draft Horse

This is a 12 x9 in. example of some mixed media work I've done. I am available for horse portraits and pet portraits using this same technique.

I am also painting murals of life sized Buggy Horses at Lehman's in Kidron, Ohio in Amish Country. To see the murals and to watch it take place thru 'work in progress' pics stop by my web site or blog. I will be painting during business hours at the store painting so if your by stop in and say hi!

Thanks for stopping by!

Homer the War Pony

This photo is one I made up as a component of a mixed media collage I am working on. However, I quite like it as a freestanding image on its' own, so here you are.
Homer belongs to the barn manager where I ride and stable my horse. He's quite the character, and a favourite of mine to photograph. He's a little guy (about 15'2" but at our barn that's pretty small) but built very solidly and with a really big head. He's all heart and go, though, and will give everything his best shot. His previous career with his owner was as a cowboy's horse, but now that they are at an English training barn, Homer and his owner are learning to work with English tack and are even trying their hand at jumping. I think maybe he'd be a little more in his element as a War Pony!!
As always, art photo prints of this image can be ordered by emailing me judywood@sasktel.net
Thanks for looking.

Painted Sunset Acryic Painting by Jenifer Trottier

Here is a newly painted 12" x 9" Acrylic on Masonite of a paint horse at sunset.
I was very fortunate to have the opportunity to use a reference shot from very talented photographer, Juliet Harrison, for this painting. Her beautiful black and white photography gave me the chance to really get creative with my color choices.

MY FIRST ACRYLIC

This is my first attempt at using the acrylic medium. It definetely is different but kinda fun!

Watch for new creations coming soon...

"Stretch," 42" x 16", acrylic on gallery stretched canvas, thoroughbred painting. Inquiries to ksantini@turtledovedesigns.com .

This is NOT a traditional portrait by any means. But I didn't intend that.

Instead I wanted an image that represented the breed, the beauty inherant in that full out stride, the tenderness seen in the reach for a peppermint, the green of reflected sunlight off Kentucky bluegrass.

This painting is more about the summation of a lifetimes' accumulated equine memories, and less about a specific horse or moment in time.

Despite it's scale, it retains a contemplative quality that encourages you to linger as you travel down that path of memory.
