What is He Doing Here?!?

Just wanted to share this Bunny painting which was a breeze to paint. This cute creature was at the Los Angeles County Fair, and I couldn't resist taking his photo. "Resting Rabbit" is oil on canvas on board and measures 6" x6". Shhhh...he doesn't know he's not on a bunny art blog!

Painting a Dog a Day by Kimberly Kelly Santini

"What the Blazes....(Broncs III)," 8" x 10", acrylic on canvasboard, depicting two horses, $449. Inquiries may always come to me.

With every deadline I'm frantically working up a new idea, literally until the 'n-th' hour. Seems to be a curse, this belief that the next painting will be so much better than the previous one.

These two faces are no exception to the rule - they represent entry #3 for the Ex Arte Equinus exhibition, applications due tomorrow.

I do like the direction my Bronc's series of paintings are going - the interplay of shapes has allowed me to wallow in the abstractions possible with multiple forms and tight cropping.

Thanks, as always, for looking at - and sharing - my artwork with your friends and family.
Kim

PS Want a great gift this holiday season? Then order either one of the Painting a Dog a Day books - they are gorgeous summaries of the Dog a Day paintings. Painting a Dog a Day - the First Year covers 2006-2007, and That's 14 in Dog Years covers 2008. Information on how to order each book is on the Painting a Dog a Day blog and thestudio website.

PPS The response to yesterday's painting was Phenomenal. I have added "Cairn Curiousity" to my Imagekind shop, so that you can order notecards or poster reprints to your heart's content. Thank you so much for supporting my art!

July's Virtual pARTY - Kimberly Kelly Santini

"A Full Belly (Marni in Foal)," a Dog a Day painting from the July Virtual pARTy, 8" x 10", equine painting, acrylic on canvasboard, $449. Inquiries may come to me.

This is Marni, who I met several years ago as part of a lovely spring photo shoot. She was days away from dropping her first foal, but nevertheless delighted to soak up even more attention (something she definately wasn't starved for!). I have a mess of photos from that evening, and chose one of them as the inspiration for the July Virtual pARTy hosted by equine artist Linda Shantz and myself.

What's a Virtual pARTy? It's when a group of artists collectively works from the same reference. In this case, participants have 24 hours to make art with a 4 day window of time to complete those 24 hours. All the pARTy entries will be shared on the pARTy blog later next week. But meanwhile, there's a number of us who are working away in our studios, painting the lovely Marni.

I'll have to hook Marni's family up with the Virtual pARTy site. I know they will get a kick of of viewing all the art their little lady inspired.

(Hey, if you are interested in participating yourself, there is still time - work is due by midnight on July 4th - sign up here)

Wishing everyone a safe and sparkley weekend. Happy 4th of July!!
Kim Santini

Painting Demonstration

This weekend I was at a special art event in which I did some painting demonstrations of equine and farm animal art. The back drop of this photo is my most recent mural of a team of Amish draft horses at a hitching post. On my easle is a work in progress painting of Daisy, a large holstein cow. I live in an Amish and farming community so these subjects are characteristic of my town and quite fitting for me to paint because animals are a favorite subject of mine!

To inquire about horse or pet portraits, purchase prints, Amish photography or to see more of my work go to http://www.suesteiner.com
Thanks for stopping by!
