"Cornered", in my mind for over 4 years, as seen the light and I love it.

My scribble friends have delivered.

They have dared to push compositional boundaries, over-use negative space, confront the viewer with a new phenomenon, highlight a slice of the bigger picture.

Studio News and a Poll

 Art Exibition and Studio Tour   

     I have quite a bit going going these days. I am getting several paintings completed for the Friends of the Great Swamp Art Celebration in Pawling, NY on Saturday, October 23 and Sunday, October 24th. The event culminates with an art auction on Sunday. The FROGS Art exhibit is part of The Arteast Open Studio Tour in Dutchess County, NY.  It is a beautiful time of year to get in the car and do the tour while Mother Nature still has on her finest colors!


New Name and a Poll

 As many of you know I have been working hard a making a new life for myself as a single, working mom (an oxymoron) and I have made the decision to go back to using my maiden name. I have spent  a lot of time and effort branding myself with my married name. Now I need to re-brand myself and my art swith my new (old) name.  have already started using my maiden name, which is Bollman,  in the middle and in a year I will drop the O'Sullivan. Not a drop of Irish in me! Italian (raised Italian) and German all the way. -)  So in the spirit of fresh starts and new beginnings I need to come up with a new name for my business. So here is where I could use your help. I set up a poll for you guys to help me decide what name to go with.  I am thinking that by using a studio name I can make this more seamless.
One of the names a particularly like is Aquarelle Studio- 

Webster defines Aquarelle as...

~French, from obsolete Italian acquarella (now acquerello), from acqua water, from Latin aqua
(pronounced "ak-we-rell") - transparent watercolour.

    I have finally gotten through having a nasty cold and  have just about gotten back into my regular late night groove again.  I thought I would post this work in progress of a Dressage  horse. The reference photo is courtesy of one of my collectors, Kathy. Thank you for use of your fabulous photos! The subject of this painting is of  black horse. Always a tough color to paint without making things dull and too dark. I choose to run with the violet and blue highlights on this gorgeous horse.

New Dressage Casein -"Shades Of Gray #3 "

 

"Shades Of Gray #3"            casein on paper               9 x 12"

 

 Even though the day started a bit gray, the sun came out and Spring called to me as I worked in my studio, saying "Come and play...the winter was cold and deep, but now it is time to come out and enjoy the warmth of spring and promises of things to come." I listened but kept painting, finishing this one casein of a gray/white dressage horse for my "Shades of Gray" series. This is number 3....there are more to come...all playing with the discovery of colors in a gray horse brought out by the light and shadows. This painting as already been put up onto my website........

Now I am headed out for a bit to rake leaves from winter weary gardens while, the pups play.

dressage sculpture chosen for trophy

I was recently asked to create a perpetual trophy from one of my wire sculptures. The horse and rider are created from a single strand of copper wire, which is then nickel-plated, resulting in a shiny chrome-like finish.

The event was a dressage competition, so I designed the base in an oval shape with a rim, painted black to resemble a top hat!

I attached the sculpture to the base with several tiny eye-hook screws... a very challenging endeavour! ...but the end result was quite stunning. I thought I would share it.

Wire horse sculptures

This is the last piece I created in 2007... "Rhythm" is made from copper wire.

I am honored to be in the company of such wonderful equine artists here on this blog.

Two Brothers

This quote by Hoffman sums up my current approach to painting. I have always been an outdoors person and my love of horses and riding transcends into my paintings.

Horses have been a part of my life for over 25 years and my love of dressage which incorporates fluidity, harmony and balance is what I strive to achieve in my work.

I have sketched horses for as long as I can remember but in January 2003, I began oil painting lessons which I continue today at Brush and Palette Studios in Tallahassee, Florida. My instructor is
Peggy Higgins, a local Florida Wildlife Federation artist. I utilize the Lynn Maderich “Paxton” equine palette which was introduced to me by Lynn at an artist workshop in New Mexico.

I was born and raised in Johnstown, Pennsylvania but have lived over half my life in Florida.

Besides painting horses, I also love to paint dogs, cats and Florida Wildlife. I have a Masters in Public Health and Environmental Health from Florida International University.
