Derby Week - Horse Art Auction by Kimberly Kelly Santini

"Watch Eye," 6" x 8", from 2007, one of eight equine paintings I am auctioning off in the next couple days. Details on the auction are below and on the studio's Facebook page.

In honor of Kentucky Derby Week, I've chosen a handful of older favorites starring horses for my next online auction hosted on the studio Facebook page.

These are paintings I love, pieces that were exbibited/on tour up until a few years ago, when they were put in storage for one reason or another. Or maybe they were in a gallery that has since closed it's doors and returned inventory to me. Or maybe, like Watch Eye above, they were personal favorites that we have been enjoying in our home, but need to let go in order to make room for new acquisitions.

These are daily paintings, acrylics done on canvasboard panels, from 2007 - 2010. Because they are older pieces and have been around the block a few times, my current galleries are not interested in hanging them.

But they deserve homes!!

So I'm auctioning them off on the studio Facebook's page. Place your bid by commenting on the photo of the painting you want to adopt. Bidding will continue until 9pm EST Wednesday evening (that's May 1st).

Please note that the winning bidder is responsible for all applicable taxes, shipping and handling fees. I estimate domestic shipping costs of one painting to be $15 and I am happy to combine shipments on multiple purchases.

The entire album of available paintings is here

This is a great way to get a pony without the vet bills or boarding fees!!

Thanks for helping me find these gems a home!

The new War Pony Large Web view

The New War Pony 22 x 29.5 inches, Watercolor.

I’m very pleased to announce that I have been Elected and Selected by the Founder and the judging Committee, to be an active Member in the American Society of Traditional Artists, ASTA

This is a very prestigious organization, founded in 2010 by Ed Copley.

Mr. Copley is also a founding member of the International Guild of Realism, which I was Elected into, in 2011/2012.

The Watercolor Painting above is a new painting I recently completed. This painting is at the Pro Printer/Photographer getting ready for Limited Edition and Open Edition Prints. If you are interested in reserving a print, please send me an email debflood@debfloodart.com

vantage point Medium Web view

Vantage Point 22 x 29.5 inches Watercolor.

Vantage Point is also at the Printer’s and getting ready to be printed.

I’ve been working steady, creating the last few works for the Solo Museum Exhibit in The International Museum of Art of El Paso Texas July 7- August 25, 2013.

Hanging on by a thread Large Web view

Hanging on by a thread, 21.5 x 29.5 inches. Watercolor. This is another recently finished watercolor.

Once I get the last 2 paintings finished and framed, I’ll just about be ready for the Solo Museum Exhibit, which will include 40 watercolor paintings. I’ll be driving there June/July and spending about a month out in the West. I’m really looking forward to the trip, meeting artist friends along the way and getting a lot of reference photos! My oldest son, who graduates from High School this June, will be going with me as well as a good friend’s daughter who is also graduating this June. It’s going to be a fun road trip!

We’ll also be spending some time in Angel Fire New Mexico, with my friend and Gallery Representation, Katherine. We’re hoping to get in some horse back riding in the Mountains there. And, work in a trip to the Monero Mustang Sanctuary.

Thank you for browsing my watercolor work and please share if you would like.

Jockeying ~~ Kimberly Kelly Santini

"Jockeying," from The Saratoga Series, 5" x 20", depicting 5 jockeys and their mounts fighting for position, acrylics on museum quality panel, $599 to the first one asking nicely. Inquiries may come to me. Please and thank you.

Remember the hot mess from a couple weeks back? Well, I sweated it through and signed off on it today. Feels darned good, too!

This painting is part of a new body of work celebrating Saratoga Race Courses' 150th Anniversary. This summer I'm ushering in the track's birthday party with a live painting session at Spa Fine Art on Saturday July 27th. I was honored to be invited and those of you who joined me last year know how much fun we had - so mark your calendars. Let's do it again!

There are lots of in process pics on the studio facebook page - you may have to scroll a bit through the Mobile Uploads folder, as progress on this painting stretched out well over a week.

Now I'm off to get a couple sketches going.

Thanks as always for following along with my artwork!

Slop ~~ Kimberly Kelly Santini

"Slop," 7" x 15", depicting a field of Thoroughbred race horses nearing the first turn at Saratoga Race Track, done in acrylics on museum quality panel, $529 to the firstasking nicely. Please works well.

In process pics are on the studio facebook page.

I literally stood in the pouring rain to get this reference photo. I was seriously waterlogged, no exaggeration. We're talking plastered hair, damp undergarments and puddles INSIDE my shoes. And while I am disappointed that the painting does not convey exactly HOW wet the conditions were, I do find other redeeming qualities in the piece.

"Slop" is headed to Spa Fine Art, my gallery in Saratoga, New York, as part of the track's impressive 150th birthday celebration this summer.

Unless you need this painting on your wall Right Now. In which case, email me and I'll make that happen.

Thanks as always for following along with my artwork!

Peek a Boo - Catherin McMillan

Peek A Boo

Been a while since I posted a blog .. will make sure to remedy that this year.. the last couple of months have been what you could call a write off ..

Finished Peek a Boo off this morning I decided to use a different paper from my usual canson pastel paper..

This time around I used art spectrum "colour fix" which is a little like working on smooth sandpaper giving the image a textured look.

Peek a Boo is  off to WA for an exhibition unless sold prior...

Thank you Katherine Waddington for the use of your photo ☺
