Online Equine Art to Benefit Horse Rescues- Save A Face project

Orange Tabby in Vibrant Color!

Grazing Horse, a favorite late summer scene with coats so sleek the light glistens off their backs!

'Soft Eye' from the Southwest Art Series framed in rustic barn siding

I started Save A Face project this summer as a way to help the vast number of slaughter bound horses.  Of course this lead to wanting to help the vast numbers of shelter dogs and cats.  So many adorable faces flash before every day by way of social media ( 'Save a Face' Facebook page and Twitter ) that I needed some outlet other than becoming an animal hoarder myself!  I decided Save A Face could be a way for people like me who want to collect all those adorable faces to do so but not really.  :)  By collecting the animal portraits a portion of the sale goes to various animal related rescues and charities so that they can be supporting and continue their good work.  A win-win situation!  Many of the pieces are smaller desk or shelf size which also makes for a nice conversation piece at work as to why you support rescues.  They also make a great gift for a fellow animal lover friend!

I have ongoing auctions on eBay which can be found here or by searching Save A Face on the eBay site.  I try to do a variety of animals- dogs, cats, horses, farm animals and such... even auctioned off a cute mini guinea pig oil painting a few weeks ago!   You can nominate a worthy (aren't they all??) rescue animal or charity on my facebook page or web site .  Post a photo on our 'wall' on facebook so I have an easy way to find my next top model!

Elin Pendleton, Bonfires of Paintings

Did I mention that I was going to burn about one third of my body of work? Over 220 paintings went into a bonfire last week, and it was cleansing and freeing. I've been sorting through the work I have created over the last three decades, and decided it was time to cull the ones I wouldn't want around to be examples of my legacy.

Was it hard to do? Yes, and yet no. Seeing and evaluating each work on an individual basis was like going back in time... remembering the places I've been, the events surrounding each of the paintings. In that regard, it was hard. But for the quality of the work, it was easy. After all, who is going to know or care what I felt or thought while I painted that garbage piece? Most collectors only want the best works, and they want to know the back story on those paintings alone. The angst I felt when I struggled through (and never completed) poorly designed and poorly executed paintings is of no importance to anyone except me, and YOU. You? Yes, because everyone wants to know that even the good artists have cr*ppy paintings.

The image above is a 12 x 16 reworked from that pile of bonfire paintings. I demonstrated how to fix a lousy painting during the Fallbrook workshop yesterday, by painting over it using the Color System to change it from almost evening light to DEFINITELY evening light. This is now a survivor of the bonfire. Here is what it looked like before I pulled it from the flames....

I'm sending my stuff to Georgia tomorrow and am flying myself and Sparky there next Saturday for three week-long workshops to teach. Tons to do before that, and I'm SO looking forward to Georgia and Florida in Spring!!!

Belgians in the Field and other Daily Paintings

Original Oil Paintings by Sue Steiner

For several months now I have been posting 'daily paintings' on my blog at http://www.amulti-coloredlife.blogspot.com/ I confess I don't do a daily painting each day but rather fit them in between commissions and other more involved paintings. A daily painting for me is one defined as being completed in one sitting. The idea is to pack as much as I can into these paintings but because of the self imposed time limit I can not get too 'fussy'. What happens is the brushstrokes become bolder and more efficient and the work is looser and livelier. Thats the idea anyways! I sell my daily paintings at my Art Studio at Second April Art Gallerie or online at my Etsy Shop thru paypal.

Above you will see a few examples of my daily paintings on sale now. I paint horses but also do other animals as well. Some of my work also has an Amish or rural theme since that is representative of where I live.

To see more art by me please stop by my web site at http://www.suesteiner.com/

Thank you!
