When I've thrown my heart into a painting, I want a framing job that is exemplary. And that's what I get every time I take my work to Diana and DJ at Accent on Art.

For this one, DJ floated the painting overtop a shallow linen lined box, and Diana finished off with a beautifully detailed gilt frame with carvings matching the delicate curls in the mare's tail.

This says exquisite on every possible level. And it makes me happy. Very happy.

Baby Steps

"Baby Steps," 10" x 5-3/4", acrylics on a museum quality panel, depicting a Gypsy Vanner mare and new foal, $399 to the first one to email. In process photos are here. I needed a breath of spring in the studio today, so I spoiled myself with some bright green grass. And indulged in another favorite of mine - black and white. Which as you know isn't really black or white. But that green? It is most definately green. Horses courtesy of Mt Christie Gypsy Horses, which I visited two springs ago with a friend, just days after this little one hit the ground.  Is it possible to have spring fever in early February? Unicorn

I've been in unicorn mode for the last couple of weeks, working on creating them and putting them in interesting backgrounds. This one started out as a photo I took of a Gypsy cob yearling, and has gone elsewhere. I'm enjoying the process of pushing the photos I take into new areas. Stay tuned for more "unreal" photo art.

Gypsy moon

I'm always surprised at how seldom I remember to post work to this blog. I post regularly (five images, not always art ones, once a week) to my personal blog, so I often forget that there are other places for me to post.

The nice Gypsy cob/vanner image that Heather posted (previous post to this) reminded me I have more of these myself. Here is one featuring a yearling that I photographed at a local breeder's place. These are real "artist" horses with their big hair, impressive presence, and calm demeanor. This is a photo based artwork, but as the tagline on my business card says, "reality is only a starting point".

Wings and feathers

I've been gathering images of gulls this spring (not sure why, but as it turns out they're coming in handy) which I have combined with this lovely Gypsy cob yearling filly for my most recent photomontage. This is just the beginning of a whole series of works I hope to do featuring this breed.

I am fortunate to have access to a locally-based herd of beautiful Gypsy cobs and look forward to following the herd throughout the seasons, also to meeting the new stallions who will soon be out of quarantine and available to be checked out.
